Night of Anglists 2023
On 24 November 2023, as part of the Third Noc Anglistów, more than 160 events took place at 17 universities across Poland! This year’s edition was also very popular at the UKEN Institute of English Studies, which hosted more than 250 participants. The thematically diverse programme included classroom workshops, a lecture on the MSTeams platform, screenings on the YouTube channel and an urban game.
High school students from Lessen Poland had the opportunity to go on a journey to the past with the Vikings, as well as to visit the mysterious world of the Irish Fairyland. They explored learning strategies, including effective reading. They discovered the phenomenon of literary intertextuality and analysed the mechanism of neologisms. They had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the specifics of the work of a translator using modern technology and polish their pronunciation in the booths of the phonetics laboratory. There was also plenty of reflection on the challenges that English teachers have been facing in this day and age.
In addition, students from the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow and the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa took part in a unique urban game, the AccessAbility Krakow Orienteering Challenge, which aimed to raise awareness about accessibility for disabled individuals in Krakow. Participants engaged in a fun and informative orienteering competition, discovering places that are friendly and unfriendly to disabled people. The event aimed to promote inclusivity, identify accessibility barriers, and encourage positive changes within the city.
